Reason #1 why living at home is awesome

Don't get me wrong, I've never wanted to live my adult life under the same roof as one of my parents, but this is the second time since I've graduated from college that I have found myself doing so. The first time was because I was just out of college and in denial for over a year that I was ever going to have a "real job." So now here I am again, living at home, and not really hating it as much as I imagined I would.

So, reason #1 why living at home is awesome: I love my mom. She's more my good friend than my mother and she's not one to forcibly impart motherly wisdom on her children. Thank god for that.

Reinvented

OK, so it's been over a year since I last posted. And it's been one hell of a year. Anyone who is reading this blog (which I'm sure is no one at this point) knows that I was laid off back in February of this year. It was no secret that I wasn't very happy in Richmond and I wasn't very happy with my job there either to tell you the truth. So it was a blessing in a very financially compromising disguise. I took the job loss as a sign that Richmond no longer wanted me, so I packed up my stuff and left town exactly two weeks after the layoff. Nanny nanny boo boo. Since that time, I've been bouncing between dad's place in Boerne and mom's place in Austin, collecting unemployment (thank you, Mr. President, for the life-saving stimulus package), doing odd jobs and plotting my next move. I've been doing some interviewing here and there (mostly in Austin, but also in LA, DC and Minneapolis) but nothing has really felt right. I didn't want to take a job just to have a job but I don't want to be living off my parents and the government for much. Plus, I'm BORED and slightly afraid that my analytical brain has begun to atrophy. So I'm still trying to work out just what I want to do with my life. I've considered many different scenarios, so you'll just have to wait and see what I come up with.

So, back to the whole living at home bit. My 30th birthday came and went and I have to admit I NEVER in a million years thought I would be unemployed and living at home on my 30th birthday. I guess that'll teach me to never say never. It's been a humbling experience to say the least. It has made me incredibly thankful that I have a great relationship with both my parents and that they are both so unbelievably supportive. So I think I'll take this opportunity to share some of my thoughts on being 30 and living at home.
