the vatican is WHACK

um, so is anyone else troubled by the vatican's newly issued "ten commandments of the road"? ok, maybe not troubled...but amused at least? my favorite part was when the report said something about driving being such a big part of contemporary life. a bit behind the times aren't we, pope-ey? ever heard of the internet? cell phones? digital music? no? let's regroup in, say, 100 years or so and we'll publish the church's opinion on those things.

i love that the vatican is willing to venture into the modern world to tell us how to drive our cars, but it still refuses to teach its kids how to use condoms.

This is from today's Brandweek Digest:

WHY DON’T THEY JUST HIRE AN AGENCY? We usually shy away from religious stories for the obvious reasons, but the Catholic Church seems to be egging us on. Last week, the church (via the Pope, no less) released its “Ten Commandments of Driving,” and now comes word from the U.S. Conference of Bishops about the church issuing a new series of radio and TV PSAs this Wednesday that ask, “What did you do for your marriage today?”. While we have no problem with most public service announcements, it strikes us as a bit off balance that celibate, single bishops might be telling us married folks how to do our jobs. (As if it’s not hard enough as it is.) But we’ll leave such final assessments to the professional comedians, who will no doubt have a field day with this one. Still, we can’t help wonder about the timing of it all, coming just before the release of Robin Williams’ new priest film, License to Wed. Did someone in Hollywood just pull off a massive PR coup?
